[Windowsfordevices.com] According to Microsoft, the "end-to-end solution" enables network operators to offer enhanced services such as video-on-demand (VOD), games, news, weather, and sports to consumer set-top boxes (STBs) and TV devices, and includes an "innovative" interactive program guide. Microsoft TV Foundation Edition is a software layer targeting cable operators with tens of millions of installed low-end STBs, which have highly constrained hardware resources -- typically, processing performance on the order of 15 MHz with as little as 1MB of memory.

MTNL Launches First India IPTV Service

[IPTV News, Events, Jobs, Service Providers - TVover.net] India's Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (MTNL) rolled out it's IPTV service in Mumbai on Saturday marking the first IPTV deployment in India. The commerical launch of the service will be available to MTNL subscribers on October 21st and MTNL will be launching IPTV service in Delhi on the 17th.

[TechEffect: Consumer technology news] The receiver uses a unique antenna (pictured below) which the company claims avoids Wi-Fi dead zones, and the receiver receives the signal, then sends it through an ethernet wire to any device which can connect to one. Currently the company derives most of its business from deals with telecom companies overseas who have gained much greater traction with IPTV than their counterparts in the U.S. I've talked about IPTV in the U.S. before, and nothing has made me rethink my views on the impact it will have on the television balance of power, but I do think that Ruckus can find another niche in the U.S. That niche is in integrating Wi-Fi with older, wired components in the home.

Latin Media Firm VOY Debuts Broadband TV Network
