DISH Network looking offer movie downloads via IPTV?

[My Gadget Info] Apparently, the satellite provider is readying an IPTV service to offer “SD and HD quality movies, music, adult programs, entertainment news, and other services such as CinemaNow.” While some of the content would presumably be free, other things like download-to-keep films would demand a one-time charge, and while the on-demand offerings could be accessed whenever you desire, “certain programs such as international channels and music services will be streamed in real time.”

BT Vision quietly launches V-Box, IPTV services

[Engadget HD] Although it's likely being overshadowed by the Queen's recent HDTV spending spree, the UK's BT Vision has quietly launched its own set-top box (dubbed V-Box) and IPTV service in hopes of carefully gauging response during the first few months. The company asserted that it wanted to avoid the manufacturing backlogs and "embarrassing supply delays," so it was waiting until "next Spring" to hit the ad campaign in full force.

For those of you that don’t know the Venice Project is the latest venture from the founders of Skype and has been a stealth mode TV over the internet project for some months now. They are rumoured to have employed hundreds of people, principally in New York, but also in many other geographies. If you are a regular reader of this blog you will know that I have more than a passing interest in this space, so I’m curious to understand the significance of this venture.

Paris to get the largest fiber network in Europe

[VOIP IP Telephony] According to a Business wire News announcement by Cisco, Free, a division of Iliad Group and the leading triple-play over broadband operator in Europe, is to roll out the first and largest optical fiber network in France and Europe, based on the Cisco Internet Protocol Next Generation Network (IP NGN) architecture and using Cisco Ethernet fiber-to-the-home (E-FTTH) technology. Free announced that residents will have access to broadband speeds that could exceed 50 megabits per second(1) for 29.99 euros per month, and benefit from advanced services such as high-definition IPTV, video on demand, multimedia communication (VOIP, VVOIP) and Web 2.0 services.

48% of Consumers Would Never Purchase a Movie Online for Download

[IPTV News, Events, Jobs, Providers - TVover.net] A new ABI Research survey of Internet users in North America found that only 5% of those who watch video on the Internet have rented or purchased a digital movie download, a lower overall number than indicate they have downloaded a movie free from a peer to peer sharing site. Movie downloads, both legal and illegal, remain the least watched genre of online video on the Internet, where short-form content such as sports and news clips is watched by nearly 7 in 10 of those that watch Internet video.
