Harmonic Ad Splicer Passes Microsoft Testing

[Telco IPTV View] 2000 digital video splicer has successfully completed conformance testing for real-time splicing of national MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) video streams of the Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV system. The test for the ProStream 2000 platform was administered by Microsoft as part of the Microsoft Mediaroom Interoperability and Qualification Lab (IQ Lab) program.

[IPTV News] Megalan Networks has selected SecureMedia's flagship Encryptonite ONE System to protect its new triple-play service, delivered over its fibre-to-the-building (FTTB) network with over existing 50,000 subscribers in Sofia. [Satpimps] On the one hand, analysts have argued that the cost of a Fiber-to-the-Premise (FTTP) deployment by Verizon, between $600 and $700 per subscriber for Broadband Passive Optical Network (BPON), is too capital intensive and will slow the mass deployment of triple-play services. On the other hand, the Fiber-to-the-Node (FTTN) architecture selected by AT&T will not deliver sufficient bandwidth to accommodate the interactive multimedia and High Definition services required to compete with rival Multi-Service Operator (MSO) and satellite networks.

China's Jiangsu Province sees IPTV subs rise 471%

[IPTV News] At the end of last year, Hangzhou City was named as having the most IPTV subscribers of any region in China with 250,000, while Shanghai Municipality had 240,000 users and Henan Province ranked third with 200,000 users. Jiangsu Province by comparison ranked just ninth at the time with 35,000, far below the top five regions, according to an earlier report from Lmtw.

NRTC signs distribution deal with HBO

[IPTV News] The NRTC partnered with the National Telecommunications Cooperative Association to offer rural telcos a complete programming selection for IPTV services, and with this latest addition the offering now has over 350 video and audio channels from companies such as A&E Television Networks, Disney/ESPN/ABC, NBC Universal, Fox News, Discovery Communications, MTV Networks, Showtime Networks Inc. and Turner Networks.

Kangaroo decision delayed until February
