[Stop the Cap!] Despite some earlier assertions made by company officials that DOCSIS 3 upgrades were designed to improve broadband service for Time Warner Cable customers, it turns out DOCSIS 3 is the foundation for the cable company’s future IPTV and “big pipe” platform.  Manchester says DOCSIS 3 will enable the company to service the wired home of the future.  It will deliver content to an edge device (such as an advanced router) with a hard drive and caching capacity that will link to home computers, MP3 players, or any other device on which consumers want to view content.

It's Nearly 2010: Where's Cableco IPTV? « The SiliconANGLE

[The SiliconANGLE] Knowing how cable technology works, as I do, and having seen IPTV work in the cases of Verizon FiOS and AT&T UVerse, I’m left to wonder why we are still stuck with the antiquated delivery method cable companies choose to shove network and cable programming at us (and why, as a result, we’re stuck with such low amounts of bandwidth to the home).

Calif. Assembly passes pro-IPTV bill

[TechEffect: Consumer technology news] In an extremely irregular occurrence, the California Assembly voted unanimously in favor of a bill which would eliminate city-by-city cable franchises. The deregulation of the cable industry would remove a giant hurdle from the path of the telecoms, including AT&T, which plans on spending up to $1 billion in the state on telephone and IPTV services through 2008 (this doesn't include the money it spent on a study to bolster its case), in their attempt to challenge the cable companies with IPTV.
