IPTVision > GeekTonic: How IPTV will Compete with the Media Center Wow Factor

[GeekTonic] I am and continue to be a HTPC enthusiast and I believe the best way for the enthusiast is to have as much control over content as possible, but I can see a day when the content providers and the cable/satellite companies move towards IPTV and "control" that content more than they do today. And at the same time offer enough power via the IPTV interface to convince many HTPC users to just give up the fight and go with IPTV.

[GeekTonic] GeekTonic: Windows 7 Hauppauge HD-PVR Add-on Updates to Beta 2: While that news was exciting and welcomed by the Media Center enthusiast crowd the details on actually getting it to work - especially on North America Media Center setups was sketchy at best. So it looks like this will work on at least some extenders (XBox360 at least) and could be a nice solution for many Media Center users at least until Microsoft brings official support for the Hauppauge HD-PVR.

[Floppyhead - Digital Media and Home Theater Computers] Is Microsoft’s Vista gambling too much on CableCARD? | Floppyhead ...: All it takes is a cable company to exert alittle more influence over the FCC and suddenly Vista is not as attractive as a media center. Without HDTV support, Vista does not offer alot of improvements, especially in light of the more stringent EULA.

[Coding Horror] Coding Horror: Windows Vista Media Center: I know this isn't Microsoft's fault but by not being able to build my own HTPC with CableCard I have zero interest in Media Center. I've been happy with my buggy Motorola box which records HD -- once I can add cable card to my HTPC and move the content around my house as I like, I'll look at a Media Center again;

[Vistaâ™ Hardware] The Green Button - Digital Cable Support on Any PC: The studios are requiring that the content must be protected and cablelabs implementation of that is OCUR through MS and the system integrators. They feel the only way they can ensure the content is protected is to ensure the final solution is protected (ie at the integrator level) because that is something that can be validated.
