Harmonic Ad Splicer Passes Microsoft Testing

[Telco IPTV View] 2000 digital video splicer has successfully completed conformance testing for real-time splicing of national MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) video streams of the Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV system. The test for the ProStream 2000 platform was administered by Microsoft as part of the Microsoft Mediaroom Interoperability and Qualification Lab (IQ Lab) program.

[itvt] At the IBC show in Amsterdam earlier this month, Microsoft TV unveiled an adjunct offering to its Microsoft Mediaroom IPTV platform, called the Microsoft Mediaroom Advertising Platform. According to the company, the new offering–which employs technologies from two companies that were recently acquired by Microsoft, Navic Networks (June, 2008) and aQuantive (May, 2007)–supports cross-platform deployments of advertisements and lets operators that have deployed Mediaroom offer targeted, measurable and interactive advertising spots, all from a single, comprehensive platform.

Microsoft unveils IPTV migration program
[Industry Watch] “As the IPTV market matures, we’re seeing interest from operators on first-generation platforms and homegrown solutions to migrate to Microsoft Mediaroom,” Ben Huang, director of product management for Microsoft Mediaroom, said in a release. “These service providers need to add high-definition and advanced digital video recording (DVR) and video-on-demand features that are now fundamental to any competitive TV offering, and they want to remain competitive by being able to easily deploy advanced interactive applications.”

New Xbox 360 due for late '07 to handle IPTV?
[Engadget] According to a pre-CES briefing that Windows expert Paul Thurrott received from his Microsoft pals, the big M will be coming out with a new version of the Xbox 360 (Zephyer?) at the end of 2007, which will feature a larger HDD and some new hardware to enable that IPTV functionality Robbie Bach was talking about during the Microsoft CES keynote. It also stands to reason that such a Xbox 360 might be sporting a fancy new HDMI port and perhaps run just a wee bit cooler -- meaning HDCP and less fan noise, natural fits for home theater use.

Hands-Off: IPTV For Xbox 360, Peter Moore Cries
[Kotaku, the Gamers Guide] After my first meeting with the folks from Microsoft (I'll be recounting them all in reverse order) I was offered a demo of the new IPTV software and a chance to check out the currently live Video Marketplace. While the former was one of those products I was marginally interested in just yesterday, Microsoft's Aaron Greenberg and Peter Moore did an excellent job selling me on the service.
