[Stop the Cap!] Stop the Cap! » One in Eight Americans Will Drop Cable/Pay ...: Older Americans who’ve gone back to over the air television are least susceptible to provider revenge, but content is still king and the cable industry will own an increasing percentage of it if the NBC-Comcast merger is approved. While the two companies are currently promising not to dispense with free over the air broadcasting, an increasing amount of content could be diverted to pay television channels like cable sports networks, movie networks, and general interest basic cable channels. Broadcasters themselves are now hungry for the same dual-revenue stream their cable competitors already enjoy – advertising income and subscription fees.

[Business Insider] The Television Industry Re-Made; The Rise Of The Virtual Cable Company: I think the measurement has to be fixed, the ad load has to be comparable (consistent w my general point that the biz model has to preserved) and the cost of the pipe will initially go up when unbundled. [VideoNuze(Analysis)] Here's How Google TV Will Work - And What It Might Mean: The idea of doing HDMI pass-through and adding stuff to HDMI from the existing Cable/Satellite set-top-box sounds like a genius plan. If HDCP or however all those copy protection technologies of HDMI don't prevent that solution from happening or to be turned off by broadcasters, then my guess is that Google could provide a $100 retail solution including HDMI pass-through and infrared emitter that would basically be compatible with all existing set-top-boxes, no matter what Comcast and DirecTV think about this.
[POKE 53280,0: Pete Brown's Blog] Adventures with HTPC - Pete Brown's 10rem.net: At least until Ben gets older, we won't watch TV in more than one room at a time, but I'd like the flexibility of watching in one place, but any place, without having to scatter set top boxes all over the house.
