IPTVision > Verizon working to upgrade FIOS to 10Gb/s - Sequence Omega
[Sequence Omega] Verizon also uses three different strands when they wire a house for FIOS – one for TV (they broadcast all channels all the time rather than using a multicast IPTV solution), one for internet, and one for phone.

[Bytemarks] Next Gen TV: Verizons FiOS service is not multicast IPTV/switched digital video streams, it is more similar to the traditional cable company network design except that they use fiber instead of an HFC network to deliver video.

[Engadget HD] FTTH network coming to Norway -- Engadget HD: As expected, the network will enable IPTV, HDTV and "multicast distribution of television, as well as internet access and IP-based telephony." Unfortunately, there's no word on when this project will reach completion, .I mean, we're finally just now mandating that they switch over to DTV broadcast here in the US..and how long has that been available?
[IPTV Service Providers] IPTV Forums - Verizon FiOS TV!: The reason we haven't been offered this service in Hillsboro yet, is that they don't have the multicast routers set up yet, but we will get the service within the year. The only reason I could see that this would fail is a lack of bandwidth and as I said there is sure no lack of that.
[Collier-Byrd.net] Windstream to acquire NuVox « Collier-Byrd.net: I've gotten to play a part in the convergence of our network (MPLS roll out, Sonus VoIP deployment, QoS and Multicast roll out, etc.) development of some of our coolest products and services (VoxIP, VoIP product, and VoxNET, MPLS VPN product with optional QoS and Multicast) , and helped integrate multiple networks into the NuVox network as a part of our various mergers and acquisitions.
[Scott Hanselman's Computer Zen] Scott Hanselman's Computer Zen - Set Tops Are Back - Microsoft ...: Do I run it on my Comcast DVR? Maybe not, perhaps I cancel with Comcast, and Verizon sends me a new set top box.
[Blog Maverick] Broadband Video is overrated too ! « blog maverick: But I believe that what we think of as network TV today will go to a subscription model, where individuals subscribe to particular shows (or more likely, bundles of shows), and their DVR/computer records it whenever it happens to be broadcast. Past episodes might well be available for on-demand download, but those can potentially be delivered on a low-bandwidth internet channel (which goes to your point about multiple bandwidth/price points for internet service).
[Richard Bennett] Richard Bennett | Liveblogging FCC hearing in Pittsburgh: Panel 1: Mark Cuban, Blog Maverick: Special-purpose networks better at what they do than the generic Internet. Multicast is the game-changer for IPTV, but it departs from the generic Internet model.
[Bits] Don't Count Out Cable Online - Bits Blog - NYTimes.com: A good example of this crime boss behavior is Brian Roberts of Comcast, who was quoted earlier this year in the NYT….where he was essentially telling Sony, which makes both content via SONY picitures and technology as in TV sets that “the typical cable TV customer was not either capable or smart enough to connect his TV, if it had an internet connection built in, to the internet to get streaming content”…so the typcial cable TV customer would need a special box, of course provided by Comcast for a fee to be the “gate way” or more realistically the toll booth to get the content to that intenrnet capable TV set.
[Richard Bennett] Richard Bennett | Quick note to Boxer: A realistic scenario could play out this way: I pay Verizon $39.99 a month for 20mbps access to the public internet and through a deal with Microsoft Verizon gives FiOS subscribers an additional 5mbps VPN over their fiber for MSN services. I could try to have a QoS agreement with Yahoo using the public portion of Verizons fiber but Yahoo wouldnt be able to guarantee the same level of service that Microsoft could offer on the VPN.
[blog maverick] The Great Internet Video Lie « blog maverick: Shelf space on most MSOs, even with digital lineups and fiber buildouts like FIOS, is still precious. Having worked in cable before the CDN space, I remember how long negotiations for The Weather Channel took with the MSOs, and Weather is a well known entity.
